Events fanout service
Use the Pismo Data Platform Fanout service (Fanout service) to deliver events reliably to your configured destinations. A fanout service is a component in a distributed system that takes one incoming event and distributes it to multiple destinations. In this guide, you'll learn about event delivery guarantees, retry behavior, timeout requirements, response handling, and connector-specific resilience characteristics. For details on configuring event delivery, see Setting up real-time event delivery.
The Fanout service processes events through three stages:
- Event ingestion receives events from the Pismo platform.
- Event processing prepares events for delivery.
- Event delivery routes events to your configured destination.
To support reliable event delivery, the Fanout service groups events into batches and delivers them through a resilient, multi-stage pipeline. Supported destinations include HTTP/webhooks, AWS SNS, AWS EventBridge, Google Cloud Pub/Sub, Azure Service Bus, and Confluent Kafka.
Pismo provides an at-least-once delivery guarantee. Events are never silently discarded. If a delivery attempt fails, the Fanout service automatically retries delivery according to the applicable retry policy until the event is successfully delivered or reaches the configured retry limits.
To help you monitor and troubleshoot event delivery, the Fanout service records all delivery attempts, including both successful and failed outcomes, in a centralized audit log.

The following sections describe the components that make up the Data Platform Fanout service, explain how events move through the delivery pipeline, and answer common questions about event delivery behavior, failure recovery, and connector resilience.
Understanding how the Fanout service handles delivery failures, retries, and recovery helps you:
- Design resilient event consumers.
- Troubleshoot delivery issues more effectively.
- Understand expected behavior during outages or endpoint failures.
- Select the connector type that best supports your integration requirements.
- Monitor event delivery with confidence using audit records and delivery logs.
