# Payment methods overview

The Pismo platform supports a wide range of payment methods, which fall into two major categories.

* **Card network operations** are operations that involve card networks such as Visa. Card network operations are covered in the [Card issuing](https://developers.pismo.io/pismo-docs/docs/card-issuing-with-pismo)  section of the guides.
* **Platform operations** are operations such as bank transfers and payments that don’t involve card networks. Platform operations are covered in this section of the guides. The [Payment methods](https://developers.pismo.io/pismo-docs/docs/payment-methods)  API is the enhanced application interface for managing platform operations.
